Play-Family Therapy Outreach Campaign

The Family & Play Therapy Center introduces you to our campaign to promote the importance of Play-Family Therapy through outreach and educational programs.
The goal of this campaign is for us to connect with clinicians working in non-profit organizations who have received little or no formal play and/or family therapy training. Training opportunities are offered to bachelors, graduate and post-graduate level clinicians working with children and their families in the tri-state area (PA, DE & NJ).

On-site trainings at your location are provided by therapists who have completed four to ten years or more of post graduate training under Dottie Higgins Klein, LMFT, RPT-S. (see CV) Three or six hour training programs can be offered at half-price at our site or yours. If additional training is requested, packages can be customized to fit the needs of the agency. We also offer generous discounts to multiple therapists coming to the Family & Play Therapy Center from the same sight.

Therapists who study at the Family & Play Therapy Center appreciate the solid framework that they receive here that helps them to work more affectively with children in play therapy. For example they understand what the play looks like in the beginning, middle and end of the therapy. They learn to read the meaning of the metaphors and how to communicate the significance of the child’s play to the parents. Training in Parent Education and Family Therapy has proven most valuable for the challenging family problems that we are confronted with on a daily basis. In a recent survey most play therapists reported feeling a big gap in training in parent education.

We are undertaking this effort to connect with individuals and mental health agencies in order to promote the value of play-family therapy training. The majority of our efforts are focused on organizations that provide treatment services to underserved populations. We are available to meet at your site to discuss training opportunities, and we invite you to visit the center to see how to set up play therapy rooms or to discuss trainings.

Pennsylvania Victim Compensation Assistance Program

The Family & Play Therapy Center is dedicated to increasing networking and outreach opportunities in the Philadelphia area to inform community members of available resources offered through Pennsylvania’s Victims Compensation Assistance Program. If you, or a family member or a loved one has been a victim of crime you may be entitled to full compensation for weekly therapy. The fund also covers medical and other expenses.

Crimes need to be reported to the police within two years from date of the incident. Some exceptions are made for sexual abuse crimes. Examples of crimes that entitle you to generous benefits include: robbery, witnessing an act of violence, burglary, domestic abuse, car accident involving DUI, and sexual abuse. Victims and their family members have received complete coverage at our private practice centers for therapy for a year or two, or as needed.

Victims of crime cut across all socioeconomic strata The goal of this program is two-fold: to increase the utilization of Victims Compensation Assistance Program resources and to promote and increase the utilization of the Family & Play Therapy Centers Referral Network to provide high quality treatment to victims of crimes.

Our private practice therapists are located in fifteen locations in the greater Philadelphia area. They are all trained to work with trauma with adults and have additional extensive training in Play-Family Therapy for children between the ages 3-12. Some of our therapists have training to work with teens, couples, and others specialize in birth to three.
